Readers' Favorite International Awards - Bronze Medal Fiction: Thriller
Great Southeast Book Festival - Top Ten Honorable Mention
"This was a real page turner, and the writing wonderful."
"This is a top shelf fiction thriller by a great writer."
"The author does a wonderful job of building suspense and keeping the reader flipping the pages."
In this two-time award-winning thriller, Florida Governor Michael Romano becomes embroiled in a moral dilemma that threatens to shatter his marriage and political career.
Romano, whose political success has been built on a platform of morality, is laser-focused on his agenda to enact stricter abortion legislation in his state. While campaigning to further his agenda, he meets a wealthy young widow, Kristin Long, who sets her sites on the governor. Despite a faithful marriage of seventeen years, Romano is drawn into a lustful affair that, despite precautions, results in an unintended pregnancy. Now Kristin wants him and his baby, and she will publicly destroy him if he doesn’t leave his wife to marry her.
Romano finds himself walking a tightrope, where a single misstep can ruin his carefully-constructed personal and political life. Choice takes on a whole new meaning for Romano as he plumbs his conscience and weighs his ever-narrowing options.
Romano’s moral compass is irreversibly skewed once he decides to set in motion a fatal plan that will allow him to pull free from the tangled web he has woven.
When Kristin’s dead body is found on a beach in Miami, her murder is attributed to a serial killer, and the case is closed. Romano draws his first easy breath in months. He’s safe.
Or is he?
The Miami police may have closed the books on the case, but to Jake Miller, a former NYPD detective and long-lost brother of Kristin Long, things just don’t add up. Using his finely-honed instincts and drawing on his law enforcement experience and connections, Jake follows clues that lead him to the Governor’s Mansion.
When he confronts Romano with what he knows but can’t prove, he’s certain he’ll get the Governor’s steely façade to crack. But Romano, raised in the Little Italy district of the Bronx, has already fought his way through major obstacles to get where he is, and no one is going to take that away from him. A gritty battle of wills between the two men leaves Romano unscathed.
Dejected but not defeated, Jake—whose tenacity and sense of justice are his driving forces—realizes that even though he may not be able to nail Governor Romano in a court of law, there’s another way to hit Romano where he lives and balance the scales of justice.
As one reviewer said, “I kept wondering right up until the end how she (the author) would have the self-righteous, hypocritical Governor Romano get his comeuppance. Well, did she ever! And I never guessed how. Bravo!”
